Us Alfonse Pagano: painter, photographer, maker of things A recipient of The New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, his mixed media and oil works were exhibited at the Carnegie Mellon Museum of Art and Laguna Gloria Museum of Art as well as various galleries throughout the country. In 1990, he turned to photography as an art form. Following an inspired idea, he embarked on a project that took him around the world. The result was a collaborative compilation of images and interviews of people from all walks of life expounding personal philosophies behind their dreadlocks. In 1999, the photo-documentary book DREADS was published by Artisan/Workman. Currently in its seventh printing, it has earned both national and international acclaim, with exhibits at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, University of Maryland, Paterson Museum, Stevens Institute and at the WBGO Gallery. Rowena Modesto: photo editor, graphic designer, street photographer (camera of choice iPhone) As Alfonse's partner both in life and in our work for 10+ years, my responsibilities encompasses a range of roles. From creative collaborations to the organizational minutiae of running a business to constantly honing my skills as a photo editor and graphic designer--it becomes vital to know which hat to wear at any given moment. As a former professional dancer, I find my love for movement still being the impetus of my inspiration in the visual world. I aspire for my work to move, flow and be a feast of simplicity to the eyes. Together our aim is to produce work that represents all that we are influenced by and passionate about so we can keep creating eye candy that moves you. |
